Piel de Mar

Piel de mar opened its doors in 1950, in the town of Gata de Gorgos in Alicante, known for its handcraft of handbags and baskets made of palm and leather. Today, the third generation of the family, mostly women, is in charge of the company and works tirelessly to promote local craftsmanship. Its high quality begins by carefully selecting each material, respecting the drying time of the palm in the Mediterranean sun and also the time it takes to make the handbags. As they often say, "they work without haste." All the leather comes from the Spanish food industry and undergoes a vegetable tanning process. This not only significantly reduces the environmental impact, but also makes the leather last longer and soften over time. The leftover leather pieces take on various forms, such as zipper pullers, the brand label, and other small items, to minimise production waste and contribute to improving our natural environment.
