Beach towel or sarong sea-horses

In 1826, in Gambettola, in the heart of Romagna, the Pascucci family opened a workshop and started their cloth printing business. The store was filled with hemp, linen, and vinegar odour. Since then, the suggestive and unique process of woodcut printing is revived daily in their workshop; the hand-carved pear wood matrices, impregnated with the colour paste, are placed on the fabrics and struck with a mallet. This is how the decorations of geometric, floral, or animal figures that are part of the rich popular iconographic heritage emerge.

Iron oxide, extracted from unused pieces, is still the colour of the print, emblem of a tradition with strong roots in the territory. The Pascucci family is the oldest witness of this art: for seven generations they have preserved and renewed this activity with respect for tradition and a desire for innovation. But today, open to the tastes and needs of modern life, the range of colours has been expanded offering greater expressive possibilities. 

Since 2000, numerous artists have started to donate their creations to the workshop to turn them into prints, further reducing the distance between art and craft.
